Superb
location for this Summer run, and we were blessed with perfect conditions for
our evening’s efforts. Yes, sunshine, clear skies and a Full Moon to boot! Worzel lived up to standard, taking us this way and that
through beautiful swathes of greenery and forest. All
areas of Pirbright Common and Brookwood
Heath were included and what a treat it was. Visitors tonight were No Nookie from Guildford Hash, good to see her back with us
again. Calamity was running with us again, very good, and Dishy Dave returned
more sprightly even than last week! The Cricketers welcomed us in afterwards,
very nice too. A super night! |

A
golden opportunity was missed by all those who could not wrench themselves
away from the addiction of the Olympics, understandably as Hoy had just won his
6th gold. Even the most sceptic and jaundiced amongst us could not help be
swept up by the excitement and national pride the sports had produced and
this was very much reflected in the mood of the night. Ive
gotta feeling that tonights
gonna be a good good
night whooo hooo. Some
were old hands at the venue others new to the track and international
athletes had flown in specially en route to
Malaysia. Larian
gembira, Drain Oil. Everyone lined up with
unaccustomed zeal and at starters orders were off with a hop skip and a jump.
A
record breaking pace was set with an early unexpected group breaking away
soon to leave the main peloton behind. Chariots of Fire could be heard
humming in the air as runners puffed and wheezed their way to the hill tops
complete with wind mill before heading off through the very scenic forested
paths, lakes and woods. We all tried to achieve our PB realising they were a
long way off any Olympic chances. The bar had been set very high in terms of
hash standards lately but this was no boring flat common here, the venue
exceeded all expectations setting challenges for every level. At
the closing ceremony still in a very ebullient mood, all congratulating
ourselves on getting round the track we awarded ourselves with heaps of hot chips
and a decent pint whilst Naked Chef entertaining us all with her dreams of Wazzer in Cornwall. But soon our Olympic flame was under
threat as we realised that one of the competitors was missing in action and
after a few false starts a search party set out just as Len staggered over
the finish line looking very bronzed off. The sound of '' we will we will mock you
mock you'' could be heard in the pub next door. No medals for that short cut!! Thanks Nigel |

Pig Pen @ The Queen
Victoria |

A
bulging pack of runners thronged the street outside our designated run, just
a mile shy of Guildford. Off we trundled, streets first then woods and then
along the river Wey navigation canal, places like Pewley
Down, Farthing Copse & Lidwell Copse, you get
the picture. Beautiful territory through the evening sunlight, and our Hare
even threw in St Catherine’s Chapel, been there since Edward the First in the
14th Century. We had to climb a very steep sandy incline to see it though,
well worth it, and great views. Tight
Git was heard to say, I am not going up there, it won’t be that way! I say, I
say… surprise surprise. But, Spanish Mistress could
not hide her amorous intentions, in front of her, pulling the long running
shorts of excitable Alan, who fell flat on his face, down into the sand with
SM right behind! My my, what a show … you had to be
there. Visitors tonight were Tracy back with us again, been tooooo long Triple Pixie! You need a new pair of
trainers. Great Bear and Kung Fu Panda were here, jolly good too. Wasser & Tosser were seen
galloping along in the local woods, they know a keen
trail when they ……run it!! Good
to see all Up Front & Simon too, their front running is always
encouraging for others to see. Pig Pen laid a superb trail, an area we must
come back to, more often. The pub service was unfortunately a lot slower than
the runners, but hey, we were happy! Come and join us, anytime………. |

George & Kung
Foo Panda @ The Volunteer |

George
and his non-existent assistant (a white rabbit perchance?) Like any good
hare, George had tried to recce his run on a couple of occasions; once on his
bicycle from Woking. A bridge too far, but at least he now knows how to get
to the pub, by bike! Given
the equation 1.15 = just about right, he used it to good effect and the run
certainly did not drag on (come on, you knew it was coming!). Sensibly
calling for torches the sun dipped down by 5 past 8 and Wazzer
declared “time for tarmac” but as Mark quite rightly assured him “it is never
time for Tarmac”. (I think Wazzer really meant
“where is the shortcut?”) Meantime
Mother Brown was caught tree hugging whilst calling “keep up at the back”. He
looked a bit fir-tive. Perhaps he was pining for
something. A field of hemp and a field of corn (where was Brer
Rabbit) kept the pack happy. Ruth, it seems, likes a chip. |

Wasser @ The Cock Inn |
28.8.12 |
A
super location up on the hillside, in fact on the side of The Box Hill Estate,
plus Headley Heath & Mickleham Common. A
beautiful mixture of Narnia forest to scamper through in the dim Autumn
light. Great to see Fish & Chips back with us tonight, lovely to see you
Anna! Our
journey was somewhat steep as the terrain would suggest, we even had the
accompaniment of Owls… to wit, to woo ing along our
trail, quite nice! Some serene moonlight views were to be had all along our
journey tonight. Little Bear & Daffy were with us again, always a
pleasure. The autumn lights of the pub in the distance were a welcoming
sight. Pig Pen regaled us with his witty intellect, once inside… Wasser…our resident Hare had provided a kaleidoscope of
undergrowth for us all to stagger under, and up and down, and All did make it
back to the pub, even Agent Provocateur, torch in hand!! Spanish Mistress
& Mark remarked on the tremendous high standard of our runs this year…
praise indeed… On On. Don’t miss the next one! |
